What Is a Prop Trading Challenge?
A prop trading challenge is the evaluation phase that a trader must pass successfully to receive a funded account from a prop trading firm. During this phase, the trader operates on a simulation or demo account under real market conditions and must demonstrate the ability to trade profitably while respecting risk parameters.
The challenge typically includes a profit target (e.g., 6–10% of account capital), a maximum daily loss limit, and a maximum overall drawdown. Traders who reach the profit target without violating the limits receive a funded account backed by real capital and can withdraw their share of the profits.
The challenge usually requires a one-time participation fee ranging from $100 to $1,000, depending on the account size. Some firms refund this fee upon the first profit payout, but this is not the case with all providers.
